Another year of see2 is over. *claps*

See² 2009

Day 1

I have come to loathe wearing dress shoes and council U. Thank the heavens that the weather was perfect for ushering (no sun). Ushering is really easy but also really boring unless you have someone to stand there with you.

If you have derek then it becomes very exciting. Still, nothing beats the aircon room.

Ary’s grp was fortunately/unfortunately located right next to command. Meaning i kept going over to look at what they were doing since its so near (see im really slack). I think i spent the rest of the morning playing games with groups.

In playing icebreaker games, CY has hax mode. Can never be caught/called/left in the middle etc. Unlike myself, although im not as lag as i used to be, still failed on some occasions. I guess you can’t succeed at dodging every time :)

The food quantity +1. So much food. Eat with chai derek shaoyun yyc until fat still haven’t finish all the food. Good for us but not great for attendance. Excess food means not all participants around.

I almost forgot the AWESOME FORFEIT that ary did with eisabess during lunch. Feeding each other. I can’t believe they agreed to do that. Originally it was for the whole meal lol. The video is on facebook/mediafire.

Spent the entire afternoon doing setup for mass games. We had table soccer in real life in an awesome setup. I was running some balloon maze game which i thought seemed quite boring until it was actually carried out.

Round 1: Epic failure, bug exploit because i didn’t mention a rule to them
Round 2: Slightly better, maze gets nerfed to allow groups to pass
Round 3: wong + joel join in. Starts to get fun. Maze buffed.
Round 4: Formations :) Rules get added in randomly.
Round 5: Even more formations with more rules and countless infractions :)

Maybe daniel and joel joined in round 2 but i can’t really remember. What I do remember is ARY’s group trying to move in a circle. It was a valiant attempt but they failed at crossing the obstacles. Creative though.

YYC loves taking photos of lifesavers for some reason. He likes to see people kiss??!?

There was also a game called “captain’s fruits”. Captain’s ball with food. As anyone could imagine, dragonfruit meets ground = AOE dragonfruit. Cabbage also. The cleanup for that was epic. It would have been really exciting for the groups but i don’t think it should be repeated at all.

Waited through a long fac debrief and then went home.

Day 2

I must confess i was highly irritated with this day. Nothing in the morning. Everything only really started at 11.
It just revolved around setting up, acting in and then cleaning up oddities.

Oddities is a really cute game. So far i’ve only seen it at see2. I was playing aeroplane chess with chai and marc for god knows how long. Marc pwned both of us. I pwned chai. HAHA. Otherwise we were really quite sian being human oddities (i was wearing SLC nametag, so wrong event).

Derek shaoyun and chai had this paper game. Like dice throwing. Land of yuchuan -20 points. Land on me +20. My ego +1 points.

Sometimes the participants do not open their eyes. In many many many cases actually.

1. Periodic table of fonts – at least 3 participants flipped past it and ignored it. There was this girl that stared at it for awhile and just ignored it. Chai and i rofled.
2. Swapped shoes – daniel and marie put their feet up (on teacher’s table/chair) but only a few groups noticed they had mismatched shoes.
3. Candy braclet – daniel kept stretching out his hand but few noticed

Then for cy + myself (swapped nametag), it was even more humerous. We kept bending over and moving near participants in hope that they would notice. They didn’t. One group did though. They asked me for my name. I was sooooooooooo hopeful that they would get it. I think i was close to laughing at that point but they didn’t notice.

Really a case of so close, yet so far.

After oddities + cleanup, it was 5pm. SK had nothing left to do. Except we stayed back to about 730 because we had to sit through a 1hr fac debrief before getting briefed on waterbombs. Damn retarded. Then i was very pissed off because i was sitting there doing nothing.

Day 3

Went around as a panel in the morning with Cy + yuying. The scale of the proposals vary greatly from group to group. From the super ambitious to the plain and simple. I think CY and I were rather harsh on grp 4 (so srry but we felt that the feasibility of your proposal was in question).

Waterbombs setup was painful work (i’ve been in pain for a larger part of the day) due to the transportation of benches from the college section. Never again are we going to do such transportation unless we have more help.

After all the moving we had lunch. Then there was this epic moment with the VIP.

Chai and YYC (the vip ushers) actually left to get the VIP at 12.28. VIP supposed to arrive at 12.30. While they were walking to their post, a car drove past. Because chia told them the VIP was an indian, they looked it.

“**** its an indian” – chai

Fastest ushering job in the world :D

Waterbombs and the setup for it got completed at an imba rate due to the introduction of buckets. Since the setup was so fast, actually had time to go kope food frm the buffet after the closing session :) . Food quality was better than that of the lunch food.

As for the actual waterbombs itself, i was sitting at the base for the even groups, watching them being totally crushed to the ground by odd. They (odd ppl) must have had pro marksmanship because the chair kept going down < 30sec after it was reset. Interestingly odd was owning although we premade 100 more waterbombs for even.

However something lacking in their playing strat was a lack of a supply chain, so both sides ran out of waterbombs very fast and had to go play soapbench in order to earn more plastic bags. Soap bench = get sprayed by hose :D

Eventually i passed over my duties to shaoyun so i went to walk around and randomly splash people. Until we reached this point where we realised that odd was too hax and that we (OT + SK) had to interfere :)

So we formed a raid group, and kept attacking the even base. You would be surprised how the defenders don’t dare to hit OT or anything. Their def at the end so weak until i managed to snipe. At the end the score was 32 to 31 (with odd winning). Out of these 63 points, the OT + SK scored at least 11 :)

Due to our wonderful accuracy, everytime we went to attack a base, we always brought down the chair. Siheng top dps with 5 chairs downed. Even i managed to knock down 1 chair :D

For the first time in 4yrs, the waterbombs was limited by the weather. SAF forecast failed though, since it didn’t rain in the end but it provided us with more time to move the benches back to the JC section and more time to clean up. Everything became earlier which is good.

Must thank the OT/facs/participants for making the event a great success and fun to help out at :) . Also got chai, derek, shaoyun, yyc, grady, wang fan and marc. With me they form awsum SK team :) Not to forget media tech, which provided excellent support this year (much better than previous years). Yangfan is great at packing up my laptop’s AC cable (because her group borrowed it). I haven’t seen it packed so nicely since it came out of the box :)

Dinner

Well this comes under the post event activities. We just mass spammed on macs, occupy an entire section. So happens that macs was crowded, so they messed up my order and actually gave me extra food :D

Group 10 was playing this truth or dare game on covie’s iphone. It was an interesting app so i dled it there and then and under wong’s coercion went to play it with grp 1. Meaning sabo Ary + eisabess to the limit.

Shan’t go into the details. Major discovery was that either ary is stronger than he looks or eisabess is lighter than she looks. Chai was too kind and refused to take any photos.  I regret not bringing my own camera.

music

A list of significant artists/soundtracks in my music library. Shows that i like have had their OST looped (obviously)

Taylor Swift – 1425
SNSD – 1187
Harry Potter – 1121 –> as a result of HP 6 being released
Vanessa Carlton – 920
命中注定我爱你 – 555 –> rather obvious
Aly and AJ – 493

And for the current top 5, finally there is a song that might displace genie.

Genie – 615
Gee – 572
Always getting over you – 352
Dance inside – 340
心愿便利贴 – 312

Always getting over you and dance inside can say goodbye already, 心愿便利贴 definitely going to reach over 400+ plays at the rate im going. If my craze over FTLY continues, i will finally have a song which has understandable lyrics at the top of playcount :)

commencement dinner

epic event. Actually i left house later than expected because i was searching for more vids for FTLY and talking abt it with edwin.

It was a good mistake :) Then had to wait less for the dinner to start. Actually im not sure why it took them so long to open the doors to the room.

The range of dressing was imba. It went from school uniform to suit. I don’t know how people can wear suit inside the hotel ballroom because the aircon wasn’t really that strong and there were so many people crammed into the ballroom.

There were awesome performances, including this dancing and the POKEMON 1ST GEN THEME SONG. Pity that they didn’t go onto the 2nd, 3rd, 4th up to all the way until whatever series is showing now.

Well it was just like a wedding dinner. Run around taking photos, find people to take photos with and eat. Chai was koping food when we were watching performances or distracted from the food. Ernest brought along subway cookies to supplement the mango pudding fish (which got cut up and distributed before anyone got a photo of it).

All in all it was a great event. Still wide awake because i had too much soft drink and now on a sugar rush.

It has been a great 2 yrs with my current class. Quite sad to see us go our separate ways next year because of different subject combos. At least we will still be in the same school :)

What i don’t understand is what could motivate some people to transfer out (i honestly have no idea who wants to transfer out, just that i know there are those with intention to do so)

The awesome songs that made the drama so great :) Basically the big 4. Some contain spoilers and the last one is a 100% spoiler vid if you want to feel sad.

chalet + stritwise

Chalet

We reached 4th for stritwise :) Finally managed to break into the top 5 for this competition. After getting fail positions for the past 2yrs, at least on the final year i tried, my team cleared top 5.

The design part was the most fun. It took ages and was a continuous rush from 11am on friday to 7am on saturday (20 HRS of cutting, pasting, sticking etc). Derek and weize stayed overnight at my hse to complete the parts for weize to wear. We created a huge mess and are really grateful that my parents + grandma helped us clean it up :)

I didn’t see the design presentation but it must have went well. Bradley probably created a giant smokescreen for us to cover up my cliché storyline. According to weize the judges didn’t realise he was inside the robot until he moved and nudged one of them. So they were impressed and we win :) Didn’t get top 3 for design but who cares (we didn’t get top 3 for anything).

GK component super easy. I didn’t require much of my GK to begin with. We (derek + myself) had to play pacman, assemble a NINE PIECE JIGSAW, put some hardware together (diagram provided) and be creative. It went well except for the creative part.

It involved drawing stuff with two circles, so i drew a chemical (N2, showing triple bond). They rejected it but accepted YYC’s water. Only create problem for themselves and make people run around. We argued for it and got it correct in the end. GK wasn’t top 3, but then again it was so easy they probably gave away 30% to everyone who knew basic life skills and had some creativity.

Then the really sad part is robocode. ARY’s epic skills failed him because he was unable to prolong the battle.

The name of the competition is stritwise (which is a play on street wise). So, they are trying to tell us from this that to be streetwise, when you get into a fight, you should PROLONG THE FIGHT. WOW. AMAZING SKILLS. LETS FEEL MORE PAIN TO GET MORE POINTS!! INSTEAD OF KILLING AND GETTING IT OVER WITH, MUST SLOWLY PUNCH OUT THE TEETH, PULL OFF FINGERNAILS, PUT OUT EYES, BLAH BLAH BECAUSE GOT MORE POINTS. I CAN SEE THE AWESOME USEFULNESS OF THIS IN REAL LIFE BECAUSE I MIGHT BE ABLE TO SELL THE BODY PARTS FOR EVEN MORE POINTS.

My point being, ARY lost on total score, rather than battles won (which he got higher). For soccer ppl, its like winning on points, but losing because goal diff is more important than points. srsly, its F****** SCREWED. Doesn’t make sense. Anyone will tell you that the point is to win.

I must disagree with chai’s analogy for this. I think a more apt version would be holding all dps to allow your opponent to dps you because he has lifesteal and will heal up. When he heals up you open dps again to get more points.

Of course, i think certain schools copied wholesalereferenced extensively from thesome top opensource bot. Safe to say we fought with relatively clean opponents. Feel really sorry for catholic high in their 1 sided robocode final with one such bot.

You guys didn’t stand a chance against a 100d+ dynamic clustering gun (its kills minimum risk movement). Neither did ARY last year :(
