14slc Grand Finale

30 May 2008 leecym 7 comments

Chai is dancing! He is not the kind of person you will see dancing.

This year the finale had a lot of foreign schools, so it overrun because there were so many and they all did one item each. So it went overtime, the ot performance only ended at 6.20pm?

Chai looks quite weird with the rest of the OT, they all seem to be very happy then he has the dao face when he stands with them.

Since i didn’t even go for the actual event i don’t really know how the whole thing went and the concept. I did see alot of facs + ot from last years slc there. CY also came along to see chai do his dance.

But the standard of performance from the facs dropped like crazy compared to last years one.

BSP Camp 2008

Very different compared to the last camp that i went to. Super slack, whole day sit in aircon and listen to lectures that i can’t understand to a large degree and even if i understand i don’t even care. I can remember there was one on some art thing that i sort of understood but it didn’t really apply.

The easy to see most obvious difference is that the camp is made up of hci boys + small amount of boys (VERY small) from dunman,rv + girls from ny,dunman,rv. HCI, NY, dunman sent massive amounts of students, almost all equal (80+) then rv sent 30 or so. It seems that a lot of girls take BSP, since every student from a school other than HCI was in BSP, as can be seen from this quote during prep for performance.

“You all are BSP right? Should be very good at chinese”
“You mean you are not BSP??”
“Yes…”

On top of that RV couldn’t send all its students because there were not enough places, so why does hci go and spam using its hp + smtp students? I mean if someone from BSP from another school wants to attend why can’t HCI just give way and send a smaller amount of students? I think HCI has around 60 – 70 BSP students (bsp + bshp + noncse bsp) so why add in extra from smtp and hp (at least 30 people)

Then the way we get grouped is very interesting. My group all the hci people were from my class (because they submitted our names in by teacher –> so it becomes by class). As this camp there were hardly any team building games and the fac was quite slack and didn’t really force us to interact, there was no interaction between hci and the other 3 schs (at least for our group). During meal we sit apart from each other at different ends of the table and i still don’t know the names of half the girls (names should be settled during day 1).

Faced with the lack of interaction, it was amazing that we managed to get 3rd prize for the group performance thing. Most decisions were done by 1 side, and the other side would follow.

Even prizes we let the girls count out everything and distribute while we slack behind.

HCI slackness also gave interesting results for the group performance. The stuff that was put together at the last minute was actually quite good. We all got to see edwin dance in great detail thanks to the video taken by one of my group members. We work at the last minute =D.

The living place is very nice because it is a hostel. There are people that clean the toilets unlike it most other camps where the students have to clean the toilets by themselves and do it horribly. The dorms are also very spacious and there is a table for mugging purposes so i managed to do someone homework whilst at the camp. They give a proper bed with a mattress so can sleep well, although for both nights there were people playing cards until very late.

They feed us 5 times per day and out of the whole singapore sports school, we went between the audi, canteen and boarding school. It is supposed to be like slc in chinese version but there was hardly any discussion (maybe its because of our group).

Some other random stuff:
- tee zhuo has grade 8 piano
- yu song kopes the piano every morning to practice and at the same time gives breakfast music to everyone
- according to a lot of people jfoo has some disorder that makes him seek excessive attention (which he likes to do)
- the OT likes to make alot of lame jokes (they even have a repetitive piano piece to accompany in the background when they say their lame jokes)
- the laptop which plays the music has got all the dota kill sounds
- Prize presentation dota sounds: 3rd – wicked sick, 2nd – godlike, 1st – holy shit (yes in front of teachers from 4 schools at full volume). Too bad they missed out the owning
- the people from the asian film archive are not good at chinese unlike the rest of the speakers which speak perfect chinese
- the camp shirt has a low thread count
- the camp is free!
- our group is the most divided amongst all the groups in the camp
- girls can bond together very fast
- cheating during the icebreaking games might have lead to our divided state
- we played icebreaker type games on the 2nd night
- boarding school needs card access although the flexible people can just put their hand through the grill and activate the switch to open the door
- jfoo has smelly feet
- darius is not so irritating if you give him something to read

Change of heart

This is what i read today. Since my sis reads alot of books by the author, i decided to try out one of the books (also because it is the newest and i can spoil her reading experience cos i know how it ends). The content (as with all the books by jodie picoult that i have looked through) is all based on morals, moral values. This book presents this moral problem to the main character.

- Is it right to allow the transplant of the heart of a man who is going to be executed for killing your child and husband into your other child who you know will die without this heart?

Then the thing i find very irritating about the writing is the jumping from character to character. It is very difficult to draw a straight line for the plot because it goes to 1 character, then back again. Although in the end it is possible to see how all the events unfold, there is a lot of sidetracking from character to character. Jodi picoult books = CME/moral ed, so i guess i settle that component for june lol.

The rest of time i made some changes to the water project thing by zi song and printed out and filed my HRP nicely to be submitted for tomorrow. Tomorrow i also have this briefing thing for a trip to sydney. It is in some conference room in the general office but i have no idea where it is.
